AKABA ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR

Mario Rosati joins Akaba Board of Directors

SAN JOSE, California, July 17, 2001 - Akaba, Inc., today announced that Mario Rosati has joined the Company's Board of Directors. Mario Rosati has been with the Palo Alto, California law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati since 1971, first as an associate and as a member since January 1975. "We are excited to have Mario join our Board of Directors," said Bill Hunt, CEO of Akaba. "His experience in the high-technology start-up area is outstanding and we are pleased to be able to tap into his experience at the board level."

Mario Rosati has been a member of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati's Executive Committee, which is elected by the Members of the firm to manage the firm. He is also the managing partner of WS Investments, an investment partnership, composed of the Members of the firm and a trust for certain associates of the firm. WS Investments has invested in a number of emerging corporations over the years.

This new director of Akaba, Inc. has sat as Judge Pro-Tem in the Superior Court, State of California, San Mateo County and serves on the Panel of Arbitrators for San Mateo County. He is an adjunct Professor, Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley and serves on the Board of Advisors for the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

In 1981, Mario Rosati participated on the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Task Force to the office of the President Elect, Ronald Reagan and in 1982-83 served as a Special Consultant to the Secretary, Drew Lewis, and Deputy Secretary of Transportation, Darrel Trent, and in this connection was a member of the Airport Access Task Force.
Mario Rosati is also director of Aehr Test Systems, Mountain View, California; Genus, Inc., Mountain View, California; Ross Systems, Atlanta, Georgia, Sanmina Corporation, San Jose, California; and Vivus, Mountain View, California; all publicly traded companies, and several privately held companies.
